LabelBaby helps parents read baby and toddler food labels with confidence. The first two years of feeding involve constant judgement calls — when to introduce an allergen, whether added sugar is hiding behind a fruit concentrate, whether a pouch marketed for six months is actually appropriate for six months. LabelBaby scans the product and answers those questions against age-appropriate guidance instead of marketing claims.
The app flags the nine major allergens, highlights added sugars and sodium relative to age-based reference intakes, and explains unfamiliar ingredients in language that does not assume a nutrition background. Parents can save a profile for each child, including known allergies and current feeding stage, so the same product can be graded differently for a seven-month-old than for a toddler.
LabelBaby is built by MetricPoint alongside Foodsage, which focuses on food sensitivities and autoimmune-aware eating, and SafaScan, which verifies halal status. Families often use more than one, and employers can offer the full suite to their workforce through the MetricPoint employee wellness program.
Baby food ingredients to avoid
Most baby food on the shelf is fine. A short list of ingredients is worth checking for, either because they add nothing a baby needs or because the label hides how much is really there. LabelBaby flags each of these when you scan a product.
Added sugars under other names
Cane syrup, fruit juice concentrate, brown rice syrup and evaporated cane juice are all added sugar. Under 24 months, there is no need for any of them.
Fruit-juice-first purees
When concentrate or juice is the first ingredient, you are mostly buying sweetened liquid rather than the vegetable on the front of the pouch.
Added salt and sodium
Babies need very little sodium. Anything above roughly 50 mg per serving in a first-food product is worth putting back.
Honey before 12 months
Honey carries a risk of infant botulism under one year, including when baked into snacks and cereals.
Choking-risk textures for the stage
Whole nuts, popcorn, hard raw chunks and round whole grapes are unsafe well past the age printed on many snack packs.
Undeclared allergen cross-contact
"May contain" warnings matter once an allergy is known. LabelBaby matches them against each child's saved profile.
