Is Aldi meat halal?

Quick answer: Aldi UK said in 2020 that it does not sell any certified halal meat, and in February 2026 said it does not sell halal goods everywhere, just a trial in a few select stores. Its own-label meat comes from pre-stunned animals. We found no certified halal fresh meat programme at Aldi US. Check the label and the store before buying.

Verdict: Mushbooh

Aldi meat is mushbooh for anyone who needs certified halal. Buy only items that carry a halal certification mark on the label, and ask the store, because the range can change.

Doubtful — verify the source before consuming.

Aldi does not run a chain-wide certified halal meat range. In the UK, halal goods have only appeared in a trial at select stores; in the US, no certified halal fresh meat has been reported.

Why this verdict

  • Lead Stories, which fact-checked viral claims about halal meat at Aldi UK, reports that @AldiUK said in May 2020 that it does not sell any certified halal meat and that its own-label animals must be pre-stunned.
  • On 2 February 2026, @AldiUK said "We don't sell Halal goods everywhere, just a trial in a few select stores," according to Lead Stories. Further spring 2026 Aldi UK comments implied some halal items were still available in some places, but the exact wording was not quoted.
  • Lead Stories also reports that Aldi UK told reporters in October 2025 that 100 percent of its meat came from pre-stunned animals. Pre-stunning is a point on which scholars and certifiers differ, so ask a qualified scholar if you are unsure.
  • Lead Stories could not verify a viral quote attributed to Aldi UK about not selling halal meat "at the moment", could not find archived versions of an Aldi UK halal FAQ page, and says Aldi UK did not respond to its requests for comment.
  • For the US, we found no official certified halal fresh meat programme. One report quotes Aldi's website as saying that while there may not be a halal-specific section in its stores, it stocks several items that meet halal requirements; we could not confirm the page ourselves. Packaged items vary by store.
  • A UK frozen turkey crown was once reported to have been wrongly marked halal-certified on its outer casing, and Aldi said at the time that it does not label products as halal-certified. We could not confirm the date, which is one more reason to check the actual label.

How this verdict was reached

Every verdict in the Is it Halal? library follows the same method. We start with the manufacturer's published ingredient statement, then trace each questionable component back to its source — animal, plant, synthetic, or microbial — because the halal status of an ingredient almost always depends on origin rather than on the ingredient name itself. Where the source is ambiguous, we look for certification records, supplier disclosures, and the positions taken by recognised halal certifying bodies, including IFANCA, the Halal Food Authority, and HMC. Country-specific certifiers such as JAKIM (Malaysia) and BPJPH/MUI (Indonesia) are covered in the country certification guides.

We then weigh the mainstream positions of the four Sunni schools of jurisprudence. Where scholars agree, we state the verdict plainly. Where they differ, we label the item mushbooh (doubtful) rather than forcing a single answer, and we explain what each position rests on so you can follow the ruling you observe. Formulations also change between countries and production runs, so a product that is halal in one market may not be in another.

This page is reviewed and updated as manufacturers reformulate and as new certification information becomes available. It is general guidance for everyday shopping, not a religious ruling for your specific situation — if a product matters a great deal to you, confirm with the manufacturer or your local scholar.
